The LeFlore County chapter of NAACP scholarship was established in honor of Dr. John Montgomery, retired LeFlore County veterinarian, who helped organize the local NAACP and was instrumental in ending segregation and bridging racial gaps that existed in the mid-1900s. The scholarship is open to LeFlore or Sequoyah County high school graduates with a minimum 2.5 GPA and 20 ACT.
