The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is among the nation’s premier institutions focusing on the art, history, and cultures representing the West. The institution’s mission is “to preserve and interpret the evolving history and cultures of the American West for the education and enrichment of its diverse audiences of both adults and children.” In support of this mission, the Museum is undertaking a new initiative to teach children and families the important, diverse stories while incorporating STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) education. This unique experience is called Liichokoshkomo’! (the Chickasaw term for “Let’s Play!”). Liichokoshkomo’ combines multidisciplinary, thematic STEAM education with core values meant to strengthen the foundation of future generations through immersive environments.
